In celebrating Mandela International Day 2025, the SA High Commission in Wellington partnered with EKTA, a local NGO that distributes groceries and hot meals to the poor, vulnerable and marginalized communities in Wellington. The day started off with the collection and packing of groceries, in preparation for distribution to the recipients on Saturday the 19th . Later that day, the Mission visited St Catherine College, a girls’ high school where the Mission and EKTA donated fruits. High Commissioner Sexwale took the opportunity to donate a book on Mandela, “Conversations with myself”, for the school’s library. On the 19th, the Mission went beyond the call of duty, supported by some members of the SA expat community to distribute food parcels in the morning and a hot meal at night to the destitute.
